There is no single right answer, and any detailer giving you one without asking about the car is quoting a schedule rather than answering the question. Where it parks, who gets in it and how it is washed matter far more than the calendar.

A Realistic Detailing Schedule

• Every one to three months for hard working cars, cars carrying kids or pets, rideshare vehicles, or anything parked outside where you want it consistently sharp
• Every four to six months for most daily drivers that get washed reasonably and kept tidy inside
• Every six to twelve months for lightly used, garaged cars with good maintenance and protection already on them
• As needed for specific work such as decontamination or correction, which should follow condition rather than a repeating booking

Some Cars Need It Sooner

A car lives a harder life than its owner usually realises. Any of the following pulls the interval shorter:

• Parking under trees, and the sap that comes with it
• Bird droppings or heavy insect residue
• Dusty, muddy or unsealed roads
• Food, drinks, kids or dogs inside
• A lot of highway driving
• Work gear, sports kit or beach sand in the boot
• Long gaps between proper washes

Run the back of your hand across a clean panel. If it feels gritty rather than smooth, there is bonded contamination sitting in the paint that washing will not shift. That is a decontamination job, not a wash.

Water that used to bead and now sits in flat sheets on a clean car usually means the protection has worn off, or road film has built up on top of it.
