How To Maintain Your Car After A Professional Detail
The first week matters, and so do the habits after it. What to do, what to stop doing, and how to make a good result last months instead of weeks.

Most people lose the result of a detail within a fortnight, and almost always to the same handful of habits. None of the fixes are difficult.
The First Day
Ask, at handover, when the car can be driven normally, when it can next be washed, and whether rain, sprinklers or bird droppings need handling differently for the first few days. If any protection has been applied, that window belongs to the product.
Check the seats and carpets are dry before loading the car back up. Damp carpet under a rubber mat is where smells start.
How Often To Wash Afterwards
When it is dirty, which for most Sydney cars parked outside means every one to two weeks. The point of washing regularly is that dirt never gets a chance to bond, so each wash stays quick.
A Safe Wash Routine

- Scrubbing hard at bird droppings or bugs
Bird Droppings, Bugs, Sap And Spills
Speed beats force every time. Soak, soften and lift rather than scrubbing. In summer, bird droppings on a hot dark panel can mark paint within a day, so keep a spray bottle and a couple of clean microfibres in the boot and deal with it where you are.
Keeping The Interior Clean
Deal with spills immediately, before they dry and set. Use decent floor mats and take them out to shake off rather than grinding the grit into the carpet underneath. A quick vacuum every couple of weeks keeps the cabin from ever needing a deep clean again.
Maintaining Wax, Sealant Or Coating
Use products compatible with what is actually on the car. If you are not sure what that is, ask before you buy anything. Random products layered over protection can smear, and they make it much harder to tell whether the protection is still working.
When To Go Back
When clean paint feels rough again, when water stops behaving the way it did, or when the interior stops responding to a vacuum and a wipe. Those three signs are more reliable than any interval.
